Strengthening the Coffee Sector through the Kopi TUMBUH Lestari Program, SCOPI Trains New Master Trainer Candidates in Sigi Regency
PALU/SIGI – In a dedicated effort to strengthen the sustainable coffee ecosystem, the Sustainable Coffee Platform of Indonesia (SCOPI) is hosting a Training of Trainers (ToT) for Master Trainers (MT) candidate in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. This initiative is a core component of the Kopi TUMBUH Lestari Program, which is designed to enhance human resource capacity within the coffee sector, particularly in social forestry areas. The program follows a hybrid format, beginning with online sessions on January 19–20, 2026, followed by intensive in-person training at the Khas Palu Hotel, the Gampiri Bumi Lestari Processing Unit, and a demonstration plot in Dombu Village from January 27–30, 2026.
During the official opening ceremony, Mrs. Ade Aryani as the Executive Director of SCOPI highlighted the training as a strategic solution to the national shortage of agricultural extension officers. Currently, Indonesia faces a gap of approximately 45,000 officers needed to provide ideal support to farmers.
"SCOPI believes that by developing highly competent Master Trainers through this tiered program, we are creating a frontline capable of driving sustainable behavioural changes among farmers. This goes beyond technical cultivation; it is about improving productivity and quality to directly enhance the livelihoods of farmers on the ground."
This initiative gathered full support from the Sigi Regency Government. Mr. Anwar, Assistant 1 for Government and People's Welfare, attending on behalf of the Regent of Sigi, noted that this synergy aligns perfectly with the region's vision for an inclusive green economy.
"Coffee is a strategic commodity that balances economic productivity with environmental conservation in Sigi. We hope these participants become 'Agents of Change' who can bridge government policies with the realities of community farming. We intend for this best-practice model to inspire sustainable agricultural development across other regions."
The intensive training curriculum merges instructional theory with hands-on field experience. Participants are trained in methodology according to the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) to refine their skills in facilitating and mentoring farmers. The technical scope covers Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), including coffee nursery, pruning, fertilization, and integrated pest management, as well as Good Post-Harvest Practices (GHP), such as grading and basic sensory (cupping) tests. Additionally, the program provides deep insights into agroforestry policies to ensure that coffee production remains in harmony with forest preservation.
The ToT attracts a diverse group of participants, including government extension officers, technical staff from the private sector, and lead farmers committed to mentoring others across Central Sulawesi. Through this collaboration, the Kopi TUMBUH Lestari Program aims to build a long-term foundation for the independence and global competitiveness of Sigi’s coffee industry.
