Activity Description
Jakarta Coffee Week is one of the most awaited event for coffee lover and professionals in Indonesia. This event took place on 30 August – 1 September 2019. Raising the spirit of Coffee is Kindness which invites all of us to celebrate the goodness of coffee for others, environment, and ourselves.
SCOPI is participating by opening Pasar Kopi (Coffee Market), in collaboration with its Members and Partners facilitating the participation of farmers from coffee producing provinces in Indonesia. There are 28 farmers from 9 provinces in Indonesia as part of SCOPI’s working areas, namely Lampung, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. This activity is a form of education for farmers to get market insights on the consumer preference while interacting directly and we hope a form of partnership can be fostered directly to the buyers.
Other activities that attracted the visitors was a demo on D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) of making bar soap and bath bombs from coffee waste. For those who are interested in coffee tasting, cupping activities are conducted in 5 sessions within the period of 3 days event. Visitors are welcome to choose their favorite coffee which will later be awarded the People’s Choice Cup while the Q-Grader choice will be awarded the Cup of Awesomeness. At the end of the event, after going through the judging process, Bpk. M. Yusuf from South Sumatera with full-washed Arabica coffee beans was chosen as the winner of the Cup of Awesomeness and Bpk. Benny Herfikaroza from Jambi with Arabica Kerinci honey coffee beans as the winner of the People’s Choice Cup.
Various workshops and discussions were also held to discuss various issues that are closely related to the coffee industry from upstream to downstream such as Living Income for Coffee Farmers in cooperation with Fairtrade Indonesia, discussion on “Climate Change” and “Making Sustainable Coffee Attractive to Private Sector” in collaboration with Rikolto, and “Innovative Strategy to Generate Added-Value in Coffee Exports” in collaboration with GAEKI and JIPREMIUM.
